Robbery

On 09/19/2021, the Portsmouth Police Department responded to 565 Islington St, Sunoco Gas Station, for a report of a robbery.  At approximately 2:40 pm, a male entered the store and walked behind the counter demanding money. The male immediately began to assault the clerk before leaving the store. The clerk sustained minor injuries but was not transported to the hospital. 

During the course of the investigation, the male suspect was identified as:

Richard Moore

63 years of age

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Members of both the Patrol and Detectives Divisions located Mr. Moore in the area behind the Howard Johnson Hotel parking lot.  Mr. Moore was arrested without incident and charged with the following, which will be prosecuted by the Rockingham County Attorney’s Office via the Felonies First program:

• Robbery (felony)
• Simple Assault x5 (misdemeanor)
• Obstructing the Report of a Crime or Injury (misdemeanor)

Mr. Moore was held on $50,000 cash bail and transported to the Rockingham County Jail to await arraignment.
