Safer Internet Day
February 10, 2020
February 11, 2020 is Safer Internet Day, which is a global event in more than 100 countries around the world, with this year’s theme being “Together for a better internet.”
Online predators continue to use the internet as a platform to target our children. With the increased use of the internet by children, particularly social media apps, this has become an urgent problem. To keep children safe, law enforcement needs all members of the community to be involved; we need to continue to educate parents, school administrators and the community on the dangers lurking online. A few key guidelines for parents and educators to share with their children:
Don’t give out personal information to people you are chatting with online.
Don’t meet with someone you have only been in touch with online.
Don’t accept emails, files, pictures or texts from people you don’t know.
Do not believe everything someone online tells you; they may be lying about who they are.
Tell your parents or trusted adult if someone or something makes you feel uncomfortable or worried.
The NH Internet Crimes Against Children’s Task Force will continue to work closely with law enforcement agencies around the state and use all resources available to prevent the victimization of children online and punish those targeting our children.
