Shakespeare Discussion Group: Twelfth Night, Tuesday June 27

Good morrow dear friends! Thou wilt nev'r guess the play we have chosen for this month's discussion group! Why, tis Twelfth Night – a tale of trickery and romance, ambition and folly, mischief and mayhem, and o’ so much more! Pick up a video recording of the play to view at your leisure, and then join us on the last Tuesday of the month at 4 PM to discuss your experience with this merry production. Be not perturbed of your knowledge of Shakespeare’s works, for we encourage fellows of all ages, areas of interest and expertise to attend!

Join us at Portsmouth Music and Arts Center for our last Guitar Sundays concert before the summer hiatus! The final concert features jazz guitarist, Eric Hofbauer.

Eric ​Hofbauer has been an integral member of Boston’s jazz scene as a musician, bandleader, organizer, and educator for the past twenty-five years. He has performed and recorded alongside such notable collaborators as Han Bennink, Roy Campbell, Jr., John Tchicai, Garrison Fewell, Cecil McBee, George Garzone, Sean Jones, John Fedchock, Steve Swell, and Matt Wilson.

Claire and Evelyn used to be great friends but saw their relationship dwindle over the years. When they reconnect at a friend's funeral, they unite over a mutual hatred for the widower. When Claire mentions that she is going to kill him, she captures Evelyn's attention, and the duo begins to plot the unlikely murder.

Films at the library are open to the public and FREE. All films will feature subtitles where possible.

Summer Reading Kick-Off Party , Friday June 16

Join Portsmouth Public Library for the return of our amazing Summer Reading Program Kick-Off Party on Friday June 16th  The field behind the library will be full of fun and games from 6 - 8 PM including inflatable obstacle course, popcorn, face painting, hula hooping and more! And don't forget to sign up for our 2023 Summer Reading Challenge!  Read and listen to books, record your minutes on Beanstack then visit the library to earn prizes. There is a program for youth of all ages - birth to high school!  (RAIN LOCATION: Connie Bean Center)

 

Ikenobo Ikebana Exhibit, June 16-17

Fascinated by Japanese flower arranging? Come learn about the practice and history in an exhibition of Ikenobo Ikebana at the Portsmouth Public Library. At 12:30 PM on Friday, June 16, an Ikenobo Ikebana exhibition will be unveiled in the library's lobby. The exhibition runs from Friday, June 16 at 12:30 PM until Saturday, June 17 at 5 PM. On Saturday, June 17 at 1 PM, the library will host a demonstration of the Ikebono Ikebana technique of flower arranging in the library's Leveson Community Room at 1 PM.
