A food waste drop-off area is located at the Recycling Center and is available to Portsmouth residents during normal operational hours. This service is maintained by local company Mr. Fox Composting. We are currently out of our supply of free backyard compost bins, and will update the community if we get a new supply.  

Recycling Center Information

The Recycling Center is located behind the Public Works facility at 680 Peverly Hill Road.

YARD WASTE PICKUP

Brush which is placed at curbside must be cut into lengths not exceeding four (4) feet; contain no pieces of brush greater than five inches in diameter, and be tied in neat bundles the diameter of which shall not exceed one (1) foot and a weight of which shall not exceed greater than fifty (50) pounds.

Place your waste curbside in a single location in front of your property after 7 pm the day before your scheduled pick up. In the downtown business district, businesses should put trash curbside two hours before the scheduled pickup, per the City ordinance . The DPW crew on most weeks starts the downtown around 3pm so placing trash curbside by 1pm is within the ordinance. Thank you!
