Portsmouth National Historic District
The replacement of the Memorial Bridge in downtown Portsmouth was a federally funded project that required mitigation for the loss of a nationally significant resource individually eligible for the National Register of Historic Places as well as a contributing resources to a National Register eligible downtown historic district. One of the mitigation stipulations for this project was a National Register of Historic Places nomination for the Portsmouth downtown historic district.
