DPW Starts Peirce Island Temporary Sewer Force Main Work on Mon Oct 12
October 9, 2020The City of Portsmouth Department of Public Works has identified the need to replace a Peirce Island sewer force main pipe that carries wastewater from the Mechanic Street Wastewater Pumping Station to the Peirce Island Wastewater Treatment Facility. The first step in this process is to install a temporary sewer force main along the ground on Peirce Island, stretching from the entrance to the boat launch parking lot to the Wastewater Treatment Facility.

October 8, 2020Five students from the We Speak social justice group at Portsmouth High School accomplished the goal of their appeal to the City Council at the meeting on October 5. The Council approved unanimously the motion offered by Councilor Cliff Lazenby that “the City of Portsmouth recognizes October 12, 2020 as Indigenous Peoples Day alongside Columbus Day.”

Partnership to Promote Bicycle Safety - "Teach the Reach"
October 5, 2020In an effort to increase awareness and promote bicycle safety, the Portsmouth Police Department has partnered with the City Planning Department and SABR (Seacoast Area Bicycle Riders). Along with education, the partnership aims to spread the message of “Teach the Reach”, a simple technique that requires drivers and passengers to look back over their shoulder before opening a vehicle door.
