Investigative Division
About the Investigative Division
The Portsmouth Police Department’s Investigative Division comprises detectives who serve in a variety of capacities. Many of our detectives have advanced college degrees and/or prior military experience, and every detective has specialized training and experience in their field of expertise. All detectives started their careers at the Portsmouth Police Department in the Patrol Division. We have two part-time Property and Evidence Technicians, both with many years of experience as sworn police officers. We have a proud tradition of serving the community through proactive programs and investigations, and we are the founding agency and headquarters of the New Hampshire Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Our detectives investigate both Felony and Misdemeanor level offenses as well as Federal crimes to include, but not limited to:
- Narcotics, illegal gambling, fraud, white collar crime, homicides, sexual assaults of adults and children, elder abuse, juvenile crime, cyber crimes, internet predators, sex offender registrant non compliance, domestic violence, child abuse and neglect, burglaries, robbery, criminal mischief, thefts and other property crimes.
Detectives also volunteer their time in the community by coaching school athletic teams, and are members of various agencies such as Rotary, Big Brother/Big Sisters, the Community Diversion Program and other worthwhile organizations.
Many of the programs that the Investigative Division participates in have been modeled by other law enforcement agencies and communities throughout New England. The men and women of the Portsmouth Police Department’s Investigative Division continue to dedicate themselves to solving crime through the highest standards of police work.
Our detectives continue to educate themselves in the latest technological advances in fighting crime. Even more importantly, our detectives know that we are the voice for the victims of crime, and that protecting and serving the community are our highest priorities.
