On Valentine's Day Monday, February 14, 2022, Mayor McEachern joined preschoolers from Portsmouth's Treehouse School to hang more than 400 hearts they and other residents crafted for the "Tree of Love" in Market Square. Close observers will note that some of the hearts are Valentines for wild birds, as they have birdseed on one side. Portsmouth Police Officer Mulcahey and Councilor Rich Blalock joined Mayor McEachern, City Manager Conard and parents, teachers and children from the Treehouse School to hang Valentines on the tree.
