Peirce Island Outdoor Pool
This legacy project that affects one of the City's prime assets and most popular benefits is intended to assure that the 1-million gallon outdoor pool can be enjoyed by the citizens of Portsmouth for the next 40 years.
The project includes improvements to the aquatics, mechanical systems and pool structure. The project was divided into two phases, with active outside construction scheduled during the off-season so as not to interrupt the seasonal operation of the outdoor pool (June-August). Those phases include:
- The construction of a new pump house/chemical building that will house the mechanical systems and piping for filtration and chemicals necessary for operation. The old chemical building will be removed.
- The reconstruction of the entire pool, including a new liner, perimeter gutter and new deck surrounding the entire pool.
UPDATE (July 2024)
- The new pump house building is complete and the construction site fenced off awaiting the installation of the new mechanical systems.
- Work is starting to plumb the building for the new pool filtering and treatment equipment.
- The roof will be installed starting the week of July 8.
- The old chemical building will be removed.
- The work on the pool and deck will begin once the pool operations conclude for the summer.
The project is part of the Peirce Island Master Plan adopted in 1999.
