May 2019 Portsmouth Water System PFC Sampling Update

The City of Portsmouth’s water supply staff continue to monitor all of our public water supply sources for Perfluorinated compounds (PFAS) every six months. The following report details the most recent analysis of the Portsmouth supply sources taken in April 2019. The water samples for this round were analyzed using the detection limits proposed by the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (NHDS) as part of the rulemaking process to set Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs) for four PFAS compounds. 

Memorial Day closures and events

City Hall, Public Works, the Senior Activity Center, the Indoor Pool and Portsmouth Public Schools will be closed on Monday, May 27th in recognition of Memorial Day. The Library will be closed over the entire weekend (May 25th – May 27th) and will continue to be closed on Sundays during the summer until after Labor Day weekend. Curbside collection will not occur on Memorial Day; those with scheduled curbside collection on Monday will have pickup on Tuesday, May 28th. 

Overnight work occurring at Peirce Island Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF) this week

Methuen and the City are conducting night work at the Peirce Island WWTF from Wednesday into Thursday from midnight to 3 AM. This work is being done to perform construction in the primary clarifier effluent D-box. There will be lights, equipment, pumps and generators on-site. The work will be similar to overnight work performed earlier this year and disruptions should be limited
